The Professional Gamer - May 8, 2017

Hi everyone! Not much to report this week. I've mastered all of the lives in Fantasy Life and have now started dedicating my game time to clearing through lots of quests and challenges. Still having fun with it and its a great way to spend time away from home. But that's it! I was too busy most of the time at my conference this past week to do much else. Have a great week and game on!

The Professional Gamer - January 23, 2016

Hi Readers! We've certainly had an eventful week. I hope everyone enjoyed the Nintendo Switch demo. We are very excited about Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  in our house. And, surprisingly, I'd rather have a subtitled version of the game rather than one that has been dubbed in English, at least based on the voice acting performances that were evident in the previews. The Japanese voice actors just put a lot more emotion into their performances.

Other than salivating about some cool new games, I've played some more Fantasy Life. I've even managed to master a couple of the lives in the game. I'm feeling like things are a little bit of a grind currently, but much of that is due to getting further along in the game and having more asked of me in order to advance my character.

In Elite: Dangerous, I'm starting to explore the galaxy, and slowly make my way to the Colonia cluster. My current intermediate destination is the Pipe Nebula. I'm purposely going very slow, plotting an economical route and scanning every feature in each system that I travel through. And, I've decided to start streaming my adventures in the stars on Twitch. I'll post notes when I'm streaming on Twitter so you all can follow my adventures.

That's all for now. Have a great week and game on!

This has been another week with a lot of commitments at work.  But, I've managed to spend a fair amount of time with virtual jobs this week as well.  I've spent a lot of time this past week playing Fantasy Life.  At this point, I'm trying get myself to master rank in all of the professions.  At this point, I've got about 4 professions to that rank, and should be able to get the rest in a few more weeks.

I've also been flying around a bit more in my Cobra MkIII in Elite: Dangerous, and am now within about 3 million credits of my goal.  I'm excited to be getting to a new ship, mostly just for the novelty of it.  I'm also looking to start doing a big trade loop through inhabited space, rather than doing a single circular loop.  I won't have the armaments of my current ship, but will be able to haul a huge amount of trade goods instead.

Finally, I've found some time to start fleshing out my homebrew D&D campaign.  We've had a long break from playing, but I am anticipating some playing time in the future.  And now, I have to plan some adventures for our Traveler game.

Have a great week and game on!

The Professional Gamer - April 18, 2015

Hi readers! This week has been another busy one at the office.  With the boss gone, I'm responsible for keeping things moving along on a lot of projects.  In spite of that, I had managed to have some geeky fun this week.  I'm thinking more about the role of media in the world and how comics work.  I also played some video games.  And I, along with Crystal and Chris, will be ComicFest tomorrow.  Come over to the artist alley and say hello, and maybe buy something?  Regardless, read on to see how I spent my geeky week.

Watching: I have again spent most of my week watching episodes of the PBS Idea Channel.  At this point, I've watched 100 of the (currently) 145 episodes.  The most interesting episodes this week have been the discussion about what fiction is and whether it exists.  Crystal and I had some fun discussing the issues brought up in these episodes.  My opinion is that fictional realities are as real as any other cultural constructs that we deal with everyday like the nation-state or money.

Reading: I'm still making my way through Understanding Comics.  I'm now in the last section and should be finished early next week.  I'm really enjoying the book still, and every page provides a new revelation on the craft of comics.

Playing: My gaming has again been limited to Fantasy Life and Hyrule Warriors.  Crystal and I are now concentrating our efforts on the Termina Map in Adventure Mode, which frequently requires you to compete against an AI team to collect more keeps, KO's, or rupees.  This competition adds an interesting twist to keep the game interesting.

That's all I have for this week.  We'll be at the ComicFest portion of Denver StarFest tomorrow, so please come by and say hello.  Have a great week and game on!

Wow, its been a busy week.  In between trying to keep my projects on time and keep all of the clients happy, I haven't had a huge amount of time for goofing off.  But, I have spent some time reading some graphic novels, playing a little bit of video games, and continuing to watch some older anime.
