The Professional Gamer - May 11, 2019

Hi readers! I went a trip this week, and unlike more times, I actually did some geeky stuff while I was away. I tossed my reliable old 3DS in my carry-on with the thought that I might play a little bit of Link Between Worlds. In the end, I got through most of the game during a couple of flights. Let’s talk about this great addition to the Zelda canon.

The Professional Gamer - June 20, 2016

Hello readers!  I was having a bit of a busy week at work, which meant that I spent most of the after hours time with a somewhat guilty pleasure: Chopped.  Of the various cooking contest shows, its one of my favorites.  But, you didn't come here to read about cooking shows, so lets talk about some more geeky stuff.

E3 has come and gone, with a lot of discussion about the new Legend of Zelda title: Breath of the Wild.  The trailer is gorgeous and the play-through videos make it look like a whole lot of fun.  I'm setting aside some money to buy an NX and Breath of the Wild next year.  I'm really excited for a more open world Zelda game where there are more options about how to proceed through the game.  What are your thoughts on this new direction?

Speaking of The Legend of Zelda, I decided to spend about an hour today to finally finish Wind Waker.  For whatever reason, I never managed to finish it during its prime on the GameCube.  Thanks to the HD re-release, I have finally been able to finish it.  The final fight with Ganondorf is interesting and spoilers: unbelievably brutal.  I'm thinking about turning around and heading out again so that I can adventure in the blue tunic rather than the hero's outfit.  I really loved that crab shirt.

Also, I spent this weekend and Denver Comic Con, buying all of the indie comics.  Seriously, I bought a lot of comics.  I'm going to leave it at that, get some dinner, and enjoy some comics.  I hope you all have a great week, and game on!

The Past Returns

All the way back in the year 2003 I took a sociology class. In this class we were assigned a paper where we had to write about how a class of people is viewed in society. I, being the person I am, wanted video games to be my research material. The paper was written, submitted and graded (got an A on it by the way), and then lost, or so I thought. I was rather sad about this as I also met my wife in the class I wrote this paper in. Well recently, when doing some clean up of old hard drives, I found the original paper. So here I give you, the readers of The Gameslave, my sociology paper titled "Woman's Role in Entertainment: Does Time Matter".

This Weeks Geek

So I am looking for a new recurring article I can write.  This is propably going to be similar to Conversations with IrishPride, but let's see how it goes.

This week I came to the realization that I have about three weeks before The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning comes out, and I still need to finish The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  I really do want to finish this game, but at the same time I want to play two different characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic.  For the first time in years I need to schedule playing 2 (or more) games at once, and it is proving more trying then I thought it would. I have an issue of having a one track mind when playing games, as I am sure many of you do. When I start on a SWTOR toon I want to continue the story now, which makes it hard to immediately go back to Link and sneaking around a mountain to get my gear back.

How does one force themselves to what essentially comes down to watching two movies at once? Currently I am testing out having a weekend game and a weekday game.  Zelda is played in long stretches during the weekend and SWTOR is played in smaller chunks during the week. This, so far at least, is allowing me to play my games and still have a social life. The only wrench in this plan is that we recently started D&D on Sundays, and this takes all day.  It prevents play of the weekend game for the day, but is worth it. Hopefully splitting my game time allows me to eat my cake and it not be a lie.

The Miyamoto Confusion

So recently Nintendo was misquoted saying that Shigeru Miyamoto was going to retire from Nintendo.  Like hell that would happen, but it still people into mass confusion.  In the attempt to guess what he would be doing this video was created.  In the event that Miyamoto does leave Nintendo I too hope this is the plan he goes with.
