Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Announced!

Nintendo has been having fun with the 20th anniversary of Pokémon. They have given away cards with a free level 100 Mew for the 3DS games. They have had the first Pokémon moviee on the official Pokémon site streaming. And now, during the recent Nintendo Pokémon Direct they have announced the next game in this massive series, Pokémon Moon and Pokémon Sun.

If this is not good enough for you, Nintendo is also releasing the original Pokémon games, Pokémon RedPokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow (Ok, that one is original-ish). These games are now available in the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS. A new feature in these digital versions will be access to the Pokémon Bank. These means you can go and catch the original 150, and then transfer them to Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. Sounds like a completionist dream to me.

Star Fox Zero Launches in November

It has been many years since since we have had a new Star Fox game. The last new one I played was Star Fox Adventures for the Gamecube, so you can imagine I have been waiting for a new game for quite some time. Sure there was Star Fox 64 3D, but that was not a  new game, just a well done remake. Well then good news for me and people like me then, because November 20th marks the day that Star Fox Zero will be released in Europe and North America for the Wii U. I look forward to doing lots and lots of barrel rolls then!

R.I.P Satoru Iwata

Satoru Iwata unfortunately passed away yesterday. Nintendo reports it was from a bile duct growth. Satoru Iwata was a very familiar face to Nintendo fans and he was very active in the community. Between Nintendo Direct and Iwata Asks he always tried to be at the fore front of what Nintendo was doing. He will be missed.

New 2DS Designs Incoming

Remember when most electronics had the option of a translucent case that was tinged one color but still let you see the inner workings? Well Nintendo does and has decided to bring it back with two new 2DS options starting on 11/21/2014 at an MSRP of $99.99.

This will launch along side (but separately) of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire this month and will make a great gift for this holiday season. And for those that are not sure, yes these are compatible with any 3DS game

Amiibos are coming

Amiibos are coming

Lets admit one thing, as geeks we tend to start collecting things. It tends to be limited to one type of thing or related to something specific, but we do collect. For some it is DVD's, others Gundum models. A recent trend as been the introduction of NFC models that work with video games. Both Skylanders and Disney Infinity have been really successful with this. So now Nintendo is getting in the game with Amiibo, figurines that resemble characters either owned by or licensed to Nintendo. The initial run is set to work with Super Smash Bros Wii and Super Smash Bros 3DS (requires dongle that has not been released yet), Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors.
