Hello readers! I spent last weekend up in the mountains away from such pesky things at cell phone reception and wireless internet access, which made it a bit challenging to put together an article for you all. Unfortunately, I also was doing field work last week, and was therefore kept away from my geeky pursuits. So, what did I end up doing in that last two weeks? Read on to find out.

Fangirl (Book) Review

Fangirl (Book) Review

Hey all! Here is my review of the book “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell.

This book follows Cath and her twin sister, Wren as they navigate their first year of Collage. In her first year of college we watch as Cath navigates new responsibilities with schoolwork, form new relationships and redefine old ones while she closes the chapter on her life with the end of a book series that has become such a big part of her life. Cath is your normal freshman in college, learning the ropes at a new school and figuring out that not everything works out the way you want. Something that is very different from the world that she has created as a fanfic author of the fictional, “Carry On”.

Hi everyone! I hope you all have had a good week and have enjoyed Chris's coverage of E3. I was excited to see lots of stuff that Nintendo has coming up for the next year. I didn't really thing that I was going to be interested in the Breath of the Wild downloadable content, but the "Trial of the Sword" actually looks very interesting. On the other hand, I have essentially no desire to try playing the game in Hard Mode; the game is already pretty hard. The Hero's Path seems like a bit of a gimmick, but might still be fun to use anyways.

Super Mario Odyssey is looking like a fun game as well, and I've enjoyed watching Twitter joking about the how Mario takes over other people's bodies. Including joke about Mario taking over the body of an average business person on the street while they are talking to their spouse.

Last on my cool E3 news list is the announcement of Metroid Prime: 4. At this point, we don't know anything about the game, but I'm hopeful that returning to the Prime series will be a magnificent rebirth for the Metroid series. I heard such bad things about the most recent games, that I didn't even give them a chance. I'm hoping that things will be better for this game. In the end, I'm cautiously optimistic for this new game.

That's all I've got for now. Have a great week and game on!

Hi everyone! I don't have much to talk about on the geeky front this week, since I've been busy travelling again. My limits of video gaming in the past week has been a few minutes on Breath of the Wild and trying out the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft. I've read a little more of A People's History of the United States, getting up to the early stages of the American Revolution.

In non-geek news, I ran in the Bolder Boulder on Memorial Day and achieved my goal and a personal record of 49:30 for the 10km race. So, I'm very excited about that still and looking forward to pushing myself harder in running for the rest of the year. I'm thinking about running a marathon next year. Readers, have you recently had your hard work payoff? Tell us about it in the comments.

Hi readers! This has been an interesting week for weather in Colorado. We are past our usual last frost date, but ended up with some significant snow on Thursday and temperatures in the mid- to low-30's. This gave me a great opportunity to watch a movie that has been on my list since it was released. I've also finished one book and am starting with another one. Let's talk about Kubo and the Two Strings.

Hi everyone! Not much to report this week. I've mastered all of the lives in Fantasy Life and have now started dedicating my game time to clearing through lots of quests and challenges. Still having fun with it and its a great way to spend time away from home. But that's it! I was too busy most of the time at my conference this past week to do much else. Have a great week and game on!

The Professional Gamer - May 1, 2017

Hi readers! I'm in the middle of two weeks away from home. I mean...technically I'm home right now, but I was away from Monday to Friday last week and will be away from Monday through Thursday this week. Anyways, I didn't have a chance to play an Zelda this past week, but I did attend ComicFest with Crystal. I also brought my 3DS with me and spent a lot of time playing Fantasy Life. In fact, I have now mastered 8 of the 12 "Lives". I don't often have a huge desire to play Fantasy Life, but sometimes when its the most interesting thing that I have access to, I can really get sucked into it. Maybe this next week and I can master another life or two.

I don't have much to report on ComicFest, largely because there wasn't very much there. I think there were 4 or 5 people selling their own comics, a few others selling prints and crafts, and several selling collectible comics. We had a few visitors at our table, but never a lot of traffic. From the sound of it, StarFest (of which ComicFest is a subsidiary portion) did not make a strong effort to cross-promote the other parts of the convention. But, I'm not privy to all the inside information.

That's all I have for this week. Have a great time and game on!

The Professional Gamer - March 13, 2017

Hi everyone! I've had a week away from home, which means that I've done very little in terms of gaming or anything else. All that I have to report is that I've played through the first zone of Call of the Wild and had a lot of fun doing it. I managed to find a lot of things that Crystal did not, which makes me feel pretty good. However, we received our Nintendo Switch while I was away, so I'm going to end up starting the game over anyways. That's alright though, being an hour or so in, I'm not going to feel too frustrated. The game is pretty and such a joy to play, that I'm going to enjoy every minute of the opening chapter again on my replay. Come back next week, when I've hopefully had time to play a little more. Have a great week, and game one!
