The Professional Gamer - December 20, 2014

Hello everyone!  Christmas is only a few days away, and I'm looking forward to having some free time to enjoy some video games and reading.  I'm also looking forward to the end of my current design project.  Soon, I will have free time outside of work and household duties again!  Until then, read about how I'm spending my time to maximize enjoyment out of a very small time budget.

Reading: I have made good progress on The Return of the King this week.  I've finished Book V, and am now back with Samwise as he attempts to rescue Frodo from the tower of Cirith Ungol.

Watching: I have managed to watch a lot of things this week, including The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and the Legend of Korra series finale.  Let's begin by discussing The Hobbit.  To be honest, I found this to actually be a mediocre to bad movie.  The pacing was fairly bad and the conclusion of the romantic subplot was hamfisted at best.  The battle itself made no sense in terms of tactics.  Overall, this trilogy has not been nearly as good an adaptation as the Lord of the Rings movies were.

On a brighter note, the Legend of Korra finale was rather good.  They finished off a lot of the main character story lines in really great ways.  Since this is still so new, I won't discuss anymore for fear of spoilers; but, if you've been watching the series up to now, you will be happy with the conclusions.

Playing: All that I can really say about gaming this week is that I switched out Bravely Default for Pokemon Y in my 3DS, to have a little break from the former.

It looks like I may still be busy until the end of year with my current project load, but I will continue to squeeze in geeky activities in what little free time I had.  Game on!
