The Professional Gamer - August 22, 2013

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's installment of the Professional Gamer.  This week has been rather busy with everything keeping me away from my hobbies.  Lots of work to do at home, overtime at the office, and getting ready to farewell some friends have kept me rather busy.  Read on to see what I did manage to do.

Watching:

I am currentlly lamenting the Colbert Report and Daily Show summer vacations.  Instead I have been watching NOVA and learning about things such as the Wright Brother's flight and training for a marathon.  ZeldaQueen and I have also been re-watching Mushi-Shi, which I think is one of the best under appreciated series of the last decade.  For those unfamiliar with the series, mushi is the collective name for a group of supernatural creatures that inhabit the world alongside humans and other natural creatures.  Much like various natural creatures, the interactions between mushi and humans are complex; sometimes symbiotic, but often dangerous and sometimes deadly.  The series follows the adventures of Ginko, a mushi master, as he travels throughout the country, helping people who have difficulties with mushi.  The series is largely episodic, with little over arching plot.  The series is a real treat with amazing art direction and characters who tug at the viewers sympathies.  The entire series is available on Netflix streaming, so you do not have an excuse to ignore this series any longer.

Playing:

I have played no video games this week.  This is the sad story of my life.

Reading:

I continued reading through The High Cost of Free Parking, but have not made it far enough into the book to further asses the arguments that the author presents.  I also read the second volume of Saga.  In brief,. Volume 2 is much improved from Volume 1.  The characters are much more fleshed out, and the consistency of the art is also better.  This is a series that I will keep an eye out for and read in the future.

That's all for this week.  Join me again next Friday for another weekly update of the Professional Gamer.
